Arlecchino’s Leap, Black Truffle and Bayston Hill are all engaged at Wolverhampton’s Twilight Meeting next Wednesday, the latter two being setup to defy their penalties for winning just before Chrimbo. As of today all three are likely to run.
Our good friend, Minella Rocco, ran a fine trial for the Gold Cup at Leopardstown yesterday afternoon jumping fine and coming nicely into the race going to the second last before just becoming outpaced as the race quickened; staying powerfully on from the last to be a closing fourth. Two further uphill furlongs at Cheltenham will be a different ballgame to three flat miles at Leopardstown and the 80/1 for the Gold Cup from last week has long gone. Edwulf was hunted round at the back for the first two miles and seemed to get tired from the third last but got back safely which would have been the object of the exercise.
Finally just to reaffirm that the enhanced prizemoney scheme kicks in from Monday; this is a really happy event, with a large proportion of races carrying £6k added and prizemoney down to eighth place in even modest races; this is something that will make a considerable, real and positive difference to the economics of ownership.
