Somehow Bird For Life just got in at Kempton on Wednesday. The race is at 6:45; it’s a mile and three furlongs and Ryan Tate will ride her. It’s a higher grade of race and a furlong shorter than she has been running over. I don’t think either fact bothers me that much. She ran a very quick time two starts ago when we had all the controversy and she showed a good turn of foot in a slow run race last time. She is drawn 10 of 14 which isn’t ideal but she’s always out the back door anyway; as along as Ryan can get to the rail I think it will be ok. There are couple of horses in the race she has beaten before and she will be taking on Iley Boy again who’s drawn wider than us. She has been on an upward curve this year and confidence is high.
We had a good Open Day at the yard to sell the 2-year-olds yesterday and I saw a few Club members there. It sounds like Bird’s possible next target at Salisbury on the 30th April is a popular choice so we will make that our aim. It will be very interesting to see how she goes back on the turf. If she keeps her form up there could be a race at Newbury for her in the middle of May which I’m sure will be very popular! These are the days we all really want.
Another little gem might come next week. We have found a possible race for Shamonix at Windsor next Monday evening. I can’t be sure she will get a run as the entries don’t come out until tomorrow but it would be great if we could make it happen. She is feeling a lot better after her feet problems. She might be a little short of fitness but we’ve got to go where we can get her in and we might as well take the opportunity to go to a nice local track like Windsor.
