It was a beautiful day at Bath yesterday but it was a bit hot for the horses. Black Truffle had a lot of young and noisy colts stabled around him and he got a bit hot and bothered. In the race he couldn’t get any cover and he went a bit hard early. Unfortunately he couldn’t sustain his effort. It’s a bit deflating after last week but he stayed on for 5th and he wasn’t actually beaten that far. Whilst I’d like to run him on easier ground I don’t think the ground was to blame. It wasn’t rattling like Bath can and he’s not sore today. I don’t think Thore did much wrong either and would be happy for him to keep riding the horse. He did lose a show which definitely wouldn’t have helped matters. We won’t be in too much of a rush to get him back to the track. There are a couple of races at Salisbury and Nottingham at the end of the month that look good for him; we will freshen him up for them.
Misu Pete and Born To Please are in on Saturday at Nottingham and Lingfield respectively. I think there is a fair chance Pete will run but I’m not so sure about Born To Please. The forecast keeps changing but it doesn’t look like they will get as much rain as I originally thought. She is a filly that could do very well for us this year so we won’t take any chances. Having said she should do well the handicapper put her up 8lb’s for her Salisbury win which is very harsh. She is progressive but that is quite a hike in the weights to overcome. Let’s hope it doesn’t spoil things for us. Looking at alternative races for her, there are a few. Chepstow on Tuesday the 15th May looks like our next target which is an evening meeting.
Bird For Life is looking outstanding at home and she might also run at Chepstow on the 15th May or at Salisbury on Thursday the 17th May. Right now we are favouring Salisbury but she is very ground dependent so we’ll decide closer to the time.
Lastly Shamonix is doing great at home too. There is a similar race to the one she won back at Wolverhampton on the 31st May. For now we will keep it simple with her though in mid-June there might be some opportunities for her on the turf as well.
We’ve had some responses for the Club Open Day this coming Sunday which is great. Just to remind everyone we will start thing off about 11. If anyone else thinks they might be able to come please let us know as it will help us to know rough numbers. Also bring along anyone you think might be interested in what we are doing!
