A bit of a mixed day yesterday. Shamonix missed the break at Wolverhampton and got in the worst of the kick back. With the hot weather Wolverhampton’s surface is particularly loose so the kick bad is awful. The track is tight and the fields usually finish close together but they were very stretched out yesterday; more like Southwell races. It would suggest it was riding slow and attritional which Shamonix just can’t handle. She has come out the race ok; a little bit sore but not as bad as she has been in the past. We will have a think what to do next with her. Maybe a step up in trip would help.
Born To Please ran better at Windsor. There was a good turn out to support her which was great. I hope everyone had a good time. She found the turning track a bit difficult but she definitely got the trip. She might come down a few pounds in the handicap which will help her. She has come out the race fine. Running on quick ground doesn’t do her any harm but she will really come back into her own when the ground changes. We have a had a good spell of summer weather but being British, we all know it won’t last forever!
We have entered Black Truffle at Windsor next Monday 9th July. I can’t say if he will get in the race yet; we will probably have an idea tomorrow or the next day. He doesn’t want the ground too quick but they water well enough at Windsor for us to get away with it. I’m determined to get a win on the grass with him!
Just in case anyone is interested we are having a BBQ at Rowdown for our staff and owners this Saturday 7th July. It’s in aid of Racing Staff Welfare Week which is basically to raise awareness of the great job racing staff do to keep the show on the road. Everyone is welcome; if you want to come along please let us know so we can get an idea of numbers. It will start about 6:30pm.
