I was a bit disappointed with Black Truffle at Windsor last night. I can’t say I thought he would win as he never has on the grass but I was looking for a bit more. The ground wasn’t really an excuse as they had watered and produces lovely safe ground. That’s not to say he wouldn’t do better on a softer surface. I can’t really see exactly where it went wrong but he did break very quickly and might have done a bit too much in the first furlong. Thore has then settled him in the midfield but Truffle seemed to switch off, as if he lost interest. A bigger field or a tighter track might be better for him. Bath seems to keep him interested so as soon as we do get rain we will be there. In the meantime, if there is anything on the all-weather we will probably run him.
Misu Pete does run at Newbury on Thursday. It is an Amateur race over a mile. There are only seven runners which is unusual for an Amateur race but we definitely aren’t complaining. He is drawn seven but over a straight course there is not much drawn bias. The ground might be a bit quick for him but it’s worth taking a chance; if he does handle it he should run very well.
