Ensign Ewart confirmed his quiet promise & progression at Kempton yesterday evening keeping on in what was almost certainly a better than average graduation race, the front two being two quality aninimals in the making; our person should be of real interest in the right grade of Handicap going forward. We will look to Roodeparis to come on for his second start and his first in more than three months.
Shamonix, an attractive filly from one of the Aga Khan’s best families, has been an immature horse who has finally began to find her place over this Summer, winning nicely under Darragh Keenan at Wolverhampton at the end of April; a couple of minor issues with her feet have slightly restricted her runs but she ran really well to be second over this course and distance at the beginning of the month before not having too much luck in terms of the way a similar race was run here in the middle of the month; we have swapped the visor for the cheekpieces in which she won in and she should remain competitive off this mark. She could easily outrun her double figure price this pm and she goes to Essex to run well.
Shamonix runs in the 5pm at Chelmsford today. The race looks a bit more competitive than the one she was second in but she would have a chance. I would be more positive but she’s drawn eleven which is going to make things very difficult for her. Stevie Donohoe is a good rider though so hopefully he can navigate a way though the field, without having to race as wide as last time.
