It seems all our local tracks are having trouble Chafer grubs. I’m no Entomologist but from what I can understand they eat grass roots, which is obviously not good for races courses. Bath was out a lot of the last two years because of them; now Chepstow, Salisbury and Epsom have all recently been abandoned due to these grubs. This means we are going to have to go further afield to run the Club horses.
We have Misu Pete in an Amateur race at Chester this Friday, 14th September. It’s a gentleman’s Amateur race so Ciaran Jones will get another go. He went a bit quick on him at Salisbury but Chester is a much faster track and he will be against some better horses; I don’t think going too quick will be an issue. He’s climbed high in the handicap now; any race is going to hard for him, so we might as well have a bit of fun. Chester is one of the best race days you can have.
Born To Please and Bird For Life are both in at Ffos Las on Sunday, 16th September. We are looking for soft ground for them and it has been wet there. Typically, they are having a dry week so I’m not sure what the ground will be on the day. We will probably only go if they get rain; it getting too late in the year to waste runs.
