Makhfar at Chelmsford
Shufoog ran reasonably at Sandown yesterday, coming to have every chance over one and a half out before fading to be beaten five lengths or so; we might look at fitting cheekpieces with her and she is equally effective over hurdles provided the ground hasn't gone.
Makhfar runs in the Second Division of Chelmsford's ten furlong Handicap, the last race on the card, the 9.15, so a late evening round the M25 for everyone. It is quite hard to know how he might run this evening; on the one hand he is now a very well handicapped horse running off 51 having won off 59 last Summer, he likes Chelmsford and will be well ridden by Richard Hannon's Apprentice, Gary Mahon (who rode that good race on Mezmaar at the end of July); on the other he has not really been in the same nick over this Summer compared to last although he might not have stayed 12 furlongs on his last run. This is him winning at Wolverhampton 14 months ago off that mark of 59 so a repetition of this performance will see him storm home this evening!
