Bird for Life ran a great race last night; it would have been nice to win but she gave us some entertainment. Watching her is thrilling and a little agonising! She looked amazing in the paddock; and a lot fitter than when she was at Ffos Las. She put in a real effort and Jason gave her a great ride. She gets the 2 miles very well now but the pace was a steady one and the winner got first run on her. If they go a stronger pace I’m sure she would finish best. She obviously loves Kempton but unfortunately there aren’t many races coming up for her. The next 2 mile race there is in early November; we will keep it in the diary but it would be nice to run her before then. If we drop back to a mile and a half there might be something but I don’t really want to do that. We could try the other all-weather tracks again or have one last crack at the turf. The handicapper has split he all-weather and turf marks, thinking she is better on the all-weather. She is 4lb lower on the turf and I just don’t think she’s been in the right turf race yet. One exciting possibility is an Apprentice “hands and heels” race at Newbury on the 26th October. It’s a race that I’m not sure if Jason is qualified for but I have a feeling he might be. If the ground was genuine good or good to soft I can see her running a big race. We will have to see how things stand closer to the time and we will look for other options.
Bird at breakfast time this morning.
We will be a little bit quiet now but it’s about time Black Truffle pulled his finger out. There are a few races coming up for him in October. Obviously he is best on the all-weather but we have all winter for that so as a bit of fun we have entered him in a 6 furlong Amateur race at Windsor on Monday. I can’t’ guarantee he will get in yet or what the ground will be but I hope he gets to run. It will give Ciaran Jones another chance on the track and hopefully a few Club members can make it. We will have more of an idea about it on Thursday or Friday.
