Padura Brave defied the seven pound rise, appreciated the step up in trip and improved to hold off the potential improvers under a nice, quite sympathetic, ride from David Probert to get up close to the line to win a shade cosily; there should be more to come from the gelding as we go forward and she should be able to cope with a step up in grade.
Dreamboat Annie just couldn't get across from the draw and, in the circumstances of the wide trip, ran decently to be fifth beaten less than five lengths; Darragh was not hard on her in the last furlong, something that will stand her in good stead, as will the fact that she clearly handled Kempton's polytrack and bend; she should be slightly eased for yesterday evening's run which will be just the ticket.
Black Truffle runs for the 94th time at Chelmsford this evening, winning eight of those and getting into the frame 30 times, a real record over the last six years. Now down to 49 and running off 42 if you allow Ellie's Claim this is a competitive mark for him although, a little like Makhfar last Saturday, he has not quite been at his best since the Spring. He is well drawn this evening and over six furlongs one of the keys is how the race is run with a strong pace for him to run into. A return to the form he was capable of this time last last year will see him be highly competitive this evening.
