I’m afraid Bird For Life’s scope wasn’t that good and we won’t be running. She has a low grade infection that could cause a bleed if we ran. Other horses in the yard have been affected but Bird has had a good constitution for the last 18 months so I had hoped she had avoided it. Hopefully she can bounce back quickly to run at Kempton through the winter, though I know it’s not as attractive as Newbury (hopefully it’s not the last chance of us having a runner at Newbury; if you read on). She will be in training next year so our day will come on the turf.
We will keep our fingers crossed for Shamonix tomorrow night at Kempton. You never can tell what’s going to happen with her but she has the ability if she is feeling well enough on the day.
Black Truffle ran a pretty good race last night; though I was disappointed he wasn’t in the first three. He got a little bump at the start and got shuffled back but I think he’s lacking half a yard of pace now. He ran all the way to the line which is encouraging; he should do well if we step him back up to seven furlongs or even a mile. He will probably go to Wolverhampton on the 1st November.
Born To Please has grown into a strong filly and she only really goes on winter ground so we feel it is time to have a go at hurdling with her. I’ve has mixed opinions from a few people when I have mentioned this before but she is very good at it at home and she might like it. I can’t guarantee she will stay the trip or carry the jump weights but if it doesn’t work out we can give her a holiday until the spring. We will give her a couple more schooling sessions and if we feel it’s right; on the 8th November we will enter her for a Novice at Newbury! Realistically she will only be going for the experience but it’s a great track to start horses off and it’s great for us to go and watch her.
Apologies again about Friday. If anyone wants to go to Kempton please let me know.
