On the whole I was very pleased with Born To Please at Lingfield today. Like a lot of flat horses turning to the hurdles she was a bit keen early on; she’s used to going a bit faster. She jumped very well, especially considering she hasn’t got any experience jumping with other horses. She got tired in the end but she was entitled to; she wasn’t 100% fit and the pulling didn’t help. To put some perspective on it, the winner is a pure bred jumper that was placed in all the bumpers he completed; including a Class 2 Cheltenham bumper. The second horse was rated 20lb Born’s superior on the flat and the third horse was rated 127 which is high enough. She was 12th and the horse that finished 11th was rated 130! Though I’d guess that horse has underperformed for some reason. In a nutshell it was a very hot race. She blew hard after the race but James looked after her so hopefully she will bounce back quickly enough. There is a mares only version of today’s race back at Lingfield on the 10th December; hopefully we can get her ready for that. It will be a slightly easier race; hopefully with less runners.
Shamonix got into the race on Thursday at Kempton; it’s at 7:30 and Ellie MacKenzie will ride. It’s hard to know how she is in herself and fitness could be an issue but we will have a go. Ellie’s 7lb claim will be a big help; the track and trip should suit and she’s drawn in 6 which is good.
