The Ballot dropped kindly for Black Truffle at Kempton on Wednesday evening and he got into the last race at the bottom of the handicap; less kindly for Bird for Life who was just eliminated from the twelve furlong Handicap.
Mezmaar is engaged at Chelsmford on Thursday evening and Ensign Ewart and Point in Time at Kempton's evening meeting on Friday, the latter having had to miss a really nice engagement at the Sunbury track a week ago last Friday because of a transient stone bruise; we are pleased to be able to put up David Probert on both of our Kempton runners.
We are also very pleased with a couple of new arrivals; the breeders of a nice four year old Showcasing gelding, Waqaas, have recently repurchased him from Jamie Osborne's Yard (he was originally sold to Shadwell as a yearling) and have kindly sent him to us; the photo shows him just arriving at Rowdown. A winner of two races (you can see him here winning for Jamie on the Laytown Strand in September) and who finished fourth in the Group Two Richmond Stakes at Goodwood in 2016; we are looking forward to seeing him competitive in some nice six furlong Handicaps later in the Winter.
The second of these arrivals into the Rowdown orbit might resonate to those with long memories; back in 2002 we took an option on a six week old Filly Foal that Barry Minty had bred at Hollybush Farm; named Royal Alchemist she went on to be rated 107 and to be one of the best eight and ten furlong fillies in Europe. She was sold as a four year old and has spent much of her post race breeding career at Ballylinch Stud in Ireland and we are very pleased to have been able to repurchase her at Goffs the week before last in foal to Lawman. She is now safely back on the land where she was foaled in the care of Elaine Chamberlain (who both foaled her and who very skilfully oversaw her development as a foal and as a yearling); if you wanted to know a little more about the mating plans for the Mare beyond the Lawman foal she is carrying you would be welcome to drop the Yard an email; the links here, here and here show three of her runs in Listed and Group races as a Four Year Old for Saxon House in 2006.
