Born to Please, Black Truffle & Bird for Life
Born To Please gave us another great day yesterday. We didn’t go to Newbury expecting much but she showed how tough she can be to finish 2nd (all be it a distant 2nd). It was an odd race; they have gone hard and the race fell apart but she stayed on gamely. She obviously enjoyed herself; she jumped very well and Harry Bannister rode her very nicely. The ground was described as good but dead. Not having ridden on the track myself I can only guess what that means but Born probably appreciated it not being bottomless. She may handle the worst ground on the flat but she hasn’t got to jump out of it with 11st on her back! Unfortunately I didn’t go but I’ve heard everyone was looked after every well by the track; Newbury is a different class. We will have to wait and see what the handicapper does now. She will be assessed on Tuesday; I hope he isn’t too harsh on her.
I wasn’t too disappointed with Black Truffle at Lingfield; he just didn’t get things to suit him. He got too much daylight early because he couldn’t slot it and ran out of steam. He still stayed on to finish 4th. He is entered again at Lingfield next week but I don’t think we will run him; there will be easier races.
Bird For Life is entered at Kempton next Wednesday evening. It looks a good race for her but it’s over a mile and a half. We will have a think about it because there is a 2 mile race coming up in a couple of weeks.
