I don’t think Miracle disgraced himself yesterday, it was just a shame he missed the break. He used to get out the stalls pretty well in the past but he’s been slow out in both races this year. Despite carrying nearly 10st and being on the back foot, he still got himself back into the race which makes me wonder how much closer he would have been if we had claimed off him. Anyway the result wasn’t too bad and he has come back fine. We probably won’t be looking to run him again until the end of the month now so he will have plenty of time to recover.
Black Truffle ran a lot better than the result suggested too. He got a bit squeezed up out the stalls and he’s not quick enough to recover the ground over 6 furlongs. Over the shorter trips, Kempton is more of a front runners track. The most important thing is he seemed to enjoy it and Ella Broadman had a good experience. We will keep him ticking over and see if there are any races for him coming up. If we can get him in over 7 furlongs at Wolverhampton or Lingfield we should see the old Truffle back.
Bird To Love ran ok; it was only meant to be an education but they went very slowly so perhaps we should have been more positive. We will find out what handicap mark she gets next Tuesday, and then make a plan for her.
Bird For Life is in at Kempton on Wednesday but it’s a higher grade of race than she’s been running in and the weight she would carry will push Ellie to her limit. I don’t think is very sensible so we will probably look for something else.
