Cala Sveva Up in Trip at Chelmsford
A decent day for our Racing Club with two of the Club's horses getting into the Winner's Enclosure if not actually winning; Bird for Life just found the hike in the weights, the drop in trip (particularly) & the rise in class just beyond her but was still going on and was the closest at the finish if never quite getting to the front two; we will look to go back up in trip with her. Misu Pete, under a fine ride from Ellie whose style and balance continue to improve and impress, was just outrun close home, witness the video here; he remains in terrific nick and has been a spiffing servant to both SH and to Rowdown. As has his half brother Miracle of Medinah who ran perfectly adequately at Newmarket off 90.
It would probably be better not to dwell overmuch on Helluvasunset who did not run very well for the third time running and may not have too much athletic ability.
Cala Sveva goes up in trip to fourteen furlongs and swops a visor for oversized pieces at Chelmsford this pm; she has developed into something of a frustrating filly, well made, athletic and from an excellent seven and eight furlong family & by a high class sire she has not shown too much real form in five starts at trips up to ten furlongs; she often travels well for a long, long way in her races before becoming one paced and there have been one or two indications that, a bit like Bird for Life, she will be more effective than her pedigree would indicate over a test; with Isobel Francis' claim she is actually competitively weighted on what she has achieved, particularly at Wolverhampton just before Chrimbo if she does stay; and she has shown that she acts on the Chelmsford version of the polytrack; there might be worse 80/1 shots.
