Chromium & Arlecchino's Arc at Chelmsford

08 October 2019 Mark Usher Racing news

We will have to find Poet Pete an alternative career and a new settled home, I fear; nice horse that he is he did not really show any improvement yesterday and was ultimately beaten a long way.

Chromium and Arlecchino's Arc run at Chelmsford's Twilight Meeting this evening; Chromium is perhaps not the most consistent horse in the Yard; but a reproduction of what Josephine Gordon and the filly achieved in getting up in a Wolverhampton Plate a couple of Saturdays ago gives her a clear form chance this evening from a good draw; I suppose it would be true to say that the constraints are going up a furlong to seven (a trip that on its face seemed sure to suit when she ran over it at Ffos Las in mid August but the outturn of that race didn't seem to confirm this), that the filly has not been particularly consistent and that she won under a strong ride from Josie with a FT visor; you couldn't absolutely guarantee that the visor will be just as effective this evening; but she simply has to be overpriced at 8/1 in a six horse race and she goes to Essex to be competitive and to run well.

We have, I hope, found a really nice race to reintroduce Arlecchino's Arc back to the track after a three and half month break; he has got in off top weight in a 0-55 and will run off 52 in the saddle with Thomas Greatrex's valuable claim; he has a really decent record at Chelmsford winning twice and not being out of the frame bar the once in seven runs in Essex; he is a light framed, quite tall horse who is more effective on the polytrack than on turf and you would not discount the possibility that with maturity he could progress further from what he has achieved; he will come on, at least some, for what he achieves this evening but he should be a real competitive horse for his generous Owners over the coming Winter, both here and at Kempton (a track on which twelve months ago he looked like completing a 1670/1 double with Padura Brave for one or two followers of the Yard before that lack of maturity kicked in close home!).

On The Right Track runs at Kempton tomorrow evening; and we are likely to run our spiffing middle distance filly, Point in Time, at Kempton on Thursday evening.
