We saddled three runners for the BHS Charity Race at Newbury yesterday and were delighted that Issy Budge powered home on Bird to Love, who followed up her spiffing performance at Kempton on Monday evening in fine style; Sophie Conway and Louise McKevitt both had fine rides on Misu Pete and Arlecchino's Leap to finish a close up 5th and 6th; the Yard are particularly grateful to Redactive plc for making it all happen for Rowdown and for what was a splendid afternoon in aid of the BHS and the work that they do for equine welfare.
Two guys who make an enormous contribution to the way Rowdown operates are our Yardmen Cyril Donnell and Dave Elisgood, who led up Bird to Love yesterday, and without both of them the kind of happy days that yesterday was would be so much harder to achieve. The photo above is Dave just agreeing with Bird to Love and Issy's family how well they have just done.
We said goodbye to a couple of old friends at Ascot Tattersalls yesterday when Freedom and Wheat and Four Mile Bridge were both placed with some new Owners; and we also very satisfactorily dispersed the 2019 Nursery horses; we are looking to replacate the success we achieved with the four yearlings we purchased 12 months ago with the 2020 iteration; the full details of our plans for the 2020 Nursery will go on the website (and be published in the Blog) during the second half of next week; two well bought colts and one equally well bought filly will make up what we hope will be an exciting flat season next year.
Dreamboat Annie was originally balloted out of her Chelmsford race this evening but the BHA have come to the rescue with an additional fixture; six furlongs round Chelsmford is just about her optimum conditions, she will be very well ridden by Jason Watson and she is now down to 48 having been competitive off 67 15 months ago; the constraints are that she had several low grade issues coming back off her Summer break and she has yet to quite recapture the level of her 2018 form; together with a draw that could be better in a sprint with a long bend; but she goes to Essex to run well.
