Bred by Denford Stud and from the family of My Branch, who went close to winning the Irish 1000 Guineas for Barry Hills, Mezmaar was originally purchased by Shiek Hamdan for 120,000 Guineas at Tattersalls Yearling Sales in 2010; trained, like My Branch, by Barry Hills and then his son, Charlie, he was a successful two year winning at Haydock and Leicester and running well to be beaten just over six lengths in the Coventry Stakes at the 2011 Royal Meeting starting second favourite.
Injury curtailed his racecourse appearances and his career really got back on track at the beginning of 2016 and he won a six furlong Handicap at Kempton in February and a similar class seven furlong iteration at the same track in June, being trained by Kevin Morgan. He joined Rowdown in February of 2017 and made his debut for the Yard in the third week of March by running well at his favourite Kempton to be beaten five lengths in a decent Class Four Handicap; he shows at home that he retains a significant amount of ability and he should be of interest over the coming Summer; he is a keen going person and Mark will train him to settle.
