Bred in Ireland and purchased as a foal by Amanda Skiffington and as a yearling by Bill Gredley, Marshall Aid did not run at two and was brought along quietly by his first trainer, Hugo Palmer, showing improvement to finish an excellent third in his first run in a handicap at Wolverhampton at the beginning of July 2016.
Mark then bought him for Brian Rogan at the Tattersalls July HIT Sale; he was bought on the same lines as Brian's grand person, Calculating (who ran a 100 times for Saxon House, winning 10 races and being placed a further 33 times, a quite splendid record), with the eventual aim of being a successful hurdler; he has the size, physical scope and racecourse performance profile to operate successfully in the NH World.
He has run in staying Handicaps on both the turf and the AW surfaces since arriving in the Yard in the Summer 2016 showing a consistent level of form finishing second four times and third five. After a break over the Autumn of 2017 Mark will look to run him under NH rules over the Winter and he has the potential to make up into an excellent NH prospect; he has been well schooled over hurdles by Henrietta Knight.
You can see him here working over seven furlongs with Pension Madness, who has already run over hurdles, on the morning of 30th November 2016; and here you can see him successfully schooling over hurdles on the morning of 26th January.
