2007   Chesnut   Gelding
by Trade Fair  ex  Focosa  ( In the Wings )

Owner:  Saxon House Racing

Spice Fair was sent to Mark at Saxon House by his breeders in the Summer of 2009 as a two year old really to see if he had any ability and he has been with us ever since!!

He has proved himself to be a extremely useful staying handicapper on the flat, winning eight times and being placed in 15 races including in some valuable and high class races; he ran an excellent race in the 2012 Royal Ascot Stakes in which he finished sixth. Over the years he has run a series of spiffing races, almost too many to mention, but one that does stand out is coming from last to first in a decent Kempton Handicap in October 2011 under a particularly fine ride by Jimmy Fortune to just put his head in front on the line, to the delight of all!!

Since the Autumn of 2014 he has started a second career over hurdles and has proved equally adept jumping and has won, been placed second five times and third four times (and finished fourth four times!) from seventeen starts, a splendidly consistent record. His final start at the end of the 2015/16 jump season was to finish third in Sandown’s Imperial Handicap, one of the most valuable Handicaps in the calendar,

He had a fair break over the Summer of 2016 and has shown in seven runs over Hurdles this Winter that he retains all of his ability, particularly when third in a valuable Cheltenham Handicap on New Year's Day and when second in the Veterans Hurdle at Newbury's March Meeting for the second year running; he wound up his Winter Hurdling season by running another excellent race in the Imperial Cup to finish a close up fourth. He is currently rated 128 over jumps, the mark of a good horse. He jumps naturally and well as you will be able to see from the photo of him under David Crosse on the Lambourn schooling grounds.

He has had two perfectly satisfactory runs on the flat over the second half of the Summer of 2017, running particuarly well in a slowly run staying handicap to be third at Ffos Las at the beginning of August 2017 and has started to set himself up for another Winter of jumping.
